Come to the Galapagos for a blue water trip of a lifetime, with me, Captain Allan Starr.

Fishing in the Galapagos is a strictly CATCH and RELEASE fishery for Marlins. Any one looking for world records stay home. Anyone looking for grander blacks ,stay home.  Although I will admit that the biggest billfish I have ever seen was here, way over 2000 lbs. I do not know if it was a blue, a black, or Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The name of my boat is BLUE, she has a white hull and is a copy of an older Bertram. She is 32 ft long, is brand new with 2 yamaha four stroke 200 HP motors. She has state of the art Furuno electronics, Lee Senior riggers, Rybo chair, and Shimano tackle. We fish primarily stand up 50 lb tackle. The stripeys here average 180 to 250 lbs we have released a few over 400 lbs, and we catch blue ones when we target them. These fish are bad boys and are a ball on this tackle. They are the most colorful of all the marlins and jump higher than most. I describe them as white marlins on steroids, that have been eating LSD.  It is not uncommon to have more than you can count in the baits at the same time, or be fighting a double header and have the flat lines get smoked while trying to clear them away. The diversity of their diet is what makes them fight the way they do. Sardines in the morning, anchovies in the afternoon and squid at night. This is caused by the huge upwellings of plankton. I have seen Krill so thick, the ocean actually takes on a pinkish tinge, with blue whales feeding right in the middle of it all. We have many sights that you will see nowhere else in the world. This is one of the reasons that it is so rigidly protected here. I am no spring chicken but wish I had discovered this along time ago.

We are building a new boat out of Salinas, Ecuador. It is a near mirror of a 37 Merritt, only at 32' and with outboards (as inboards or I/O's are not allowed here, nor are boats beyond 32'). An express boat is also being crafted by the same builder. Pics will be coming when the boat(s) are closing to finished (as you all know how an unfinished boat looks). She will be fully rigged with all the trimming, so stay tuned.

When I say this is the safest place you will ever be in South America, it is without reservation. I have had laundry lady bring me back $300.00, that I forgot in my pants. I do not know anyplace lately where that would happen. You can go for a walk at 0300 and be in danger only from a sea lion mugging you. The islanders are a happy people and they make the place. I fish out of the island of San Cristobal, the capital of Galapagos.  There is a jetport here ,international phones, and internet cafes. A bunch of nice hotels. The ones most of my clients stay at are the MICONIA and the CHATHAM hotel.  FLYRODDERS are welcome but should bring their own tackle, as we are not equipped with fly tackle.  The trip is limited to four anglers, due to size of boat, Parque Nacional rules will not allow bigger boats in the fishery, no inboards, you may ask why?? Because this is what they want, and you and I cannot change it.  Night life is low key.  You DO NOT DRINK THE WATER unless you want to get sick, bottled water only. Sea water contamination makes all water muy malo. There are pharmacies that can tend to all your needs. There is a well equipped hospital. Restaurants are all very good. You can keep a Tuna or Wahoo to eat.

The Park charges $100.00 USD when you enter the island. This is a fee for any one who visits Galapagos.

If you have any questions or need more info, let me know.

That about sums up my operation. You will hear some right pretty exaggerations from other operations, but I do not have to ,self praise is no praise at all, and in this business when you have to tell someone how good you are, you better start looking for another line of work.  I come from south Dartmouth, MA, and am 64 yrs old. I spent 10 yrs 6 mos 11 days in the USCG.  I have fished from Newfoundland to Panama, and have never seen anything like the marlin fishing there is in Galapagos

The best marlin fishing on planet earth.
