It's all in the face cut. Use your imagination and test'em out. The same hydrodynamics that apply to a metal lip will apply to the face of the lure as well.
I'm trying to stay clear of lips and still get the swimming action. Sometimes, what you think will work doesn't and what won't will.... Experiment...
