I had a JRC 2000 on my Hydra-Sport walk around. I loved the unit. Of course it was a CRT display, but it did its job. Be certain not to skimp on the scanner (open array will give you a more concentrated beam than a dome...but costs more). If you're taking the boat offshore, I would go for the most power for your budget.
