Hey Capt Neil. What do you mean by "every foot of reel" I have never hear it explained like that before. Are you refering to the gear ratio of the reel or is that a misunderstanding by the author? I have always done a static test to place my eyes and like you say in the article most production rods don't have enough. Thanks in advance for the reply.

And I like the idea about the grandchildren getting there own rod. I made one for my first born before she was one. I guess I jumped the gun a little.
