point judith RI

This past sunday me and the girlfriend made the trip to Point Judith just to get out of the house. man did It feel good to see the clean blue water and listen to the waves crashing in. There were even guys out surfing in the freezing cold. I should have brought the surf gear but it was still a little to cold to be out there sinking chunks. only a few more weeks and I'll have to get out there and wet some lines. One thing I did find was a nice little boat launch along the shore just before you get to the public beach there. I just have to find out if they allow out of state vehucles to launch and park there with a trailer.

no exactally sure but if you take the exit for pt. Judith off rt 1, go right off the exit and then go straight untill you hit the main road along the shore, the launch is almost straight ahead.

I believe you were at pier 5 in Narragansett. Launch has very limited parking. Good fishing in that area up into the bay.

Ah yes.....also....a very steep ramp.

Watched a guy lose his entire rig there once.

that sounds like the one I was at. I didn't notice any no parking signs but Just wondering if anyone knows wether or not out of state vehicles are allowed to use the launch and park there with a trailer as well.

Flounderponder,
The ramp you are talking about is a public boat launch and there are no restrictions on out-of-state vehicles. There is a better public ramp, however, (double concrete ramp, easier to launch and tie up, and more parking available) located in Galilee, RI. Take the same exit off of Rt. 1, but take a right at the four-way stoplight onto Rt 108 South. Follow that road until you see the signs for Galilee and Pt. Judith. Take a right onto the Escape Road and follow it to the end. Take a right at the intersection and the boat launch and parking area will be on your right.

The only problem with this ramp is that you will have to pass under the road bridge to get to open water, so if you have a tower on your boat, you might not be able to get under the bridge. I've launched my 24' WA there several times with no worries. I don't have a tower, but I've got a radar arch and dome that makes it under the bridge with no problems. And I've seen some pretty big boats launching from that ramp as well. I don't have my chart in front of me right now to check the clearance, but I seem to remember it was around 14' at mean high tide.

Tight lines.

Just watch out for the googans......and dickheads....that ramp is full of 'em....been using it since it was made. And use the ramp farthest from the dock.

A little secret, DEM F-ed up with the first one, built it too shallow (have to bury your truck to the doors) then built the other one to "correct it" LOL.

Get there early, get back in early......(unless its during the week).

I launch at Hanson's at the top of the salt pond. The ramp is marginal at best, and you need to make the 4 mile run through the salt pond, but there is plent of parking.

Extreme low tide can be a launching nightmare.

HA! HA! Yeah, sometimes when I get back in early and load my boat, I'll sit in the parking area and watch some of the morons trying to load and unload their boats. Just love it when they back their trailer really deep and try to get their boat on straight. Usually, after two or three attempts using the same approach, backing down, repositioning, driving back up again, they just give up and go home with a crooked boat! Or they make their fishing partner get in the water to hold the stern ( even more amusing when the "holder" is their spouse ). Even saw a guy unload his boat perfectly one time, except for one small thing. He forgot to unhook his winch strap ! When he tore up the ramp to park his truck, he dragged his boat halfway up the ramp. That was really funny watching two guys trying to push a 3000 lb beached whale back into the water!
