Both fustrating an disappointing

Over the last week, I have taken Anthony on 3 party boat trips for bass and to be honest 2 of the 3 were nightmare trips and serve as a reminder as to why I charter as much. Some examples

1. Why do party boat captains and or mates actually fish during the trip??? especially when there are paying customers trying to get tight and cant. I had a captain hook up with Anthony standing right next to him and didnt pass him the rod (not that he needs it). He just patted himself on the back for catching the only striper of the night

2. Part boats should always have sufficient hooks and leader material at all times, this was evident on the same trip where they ran out of both as customer were complaining luckily I always tie my own rigs in advance

3. Today I took him on a 3/4 day. Let me run down the list. Guys fighting someone almost ran him over we almost came to blows. Just rediculous and disgusting.

Noone could buy a bite until the afternoon when several 40+" fish were landed. Anthony and I managed several large bluefish but no Bass today

Listen I understand, its a party boat not a charter but I have never been on boats that operated like that. I read the report about muff diver

Gman those are terrible examples of charter trips I'm sorry for you and your son having to see the worst of some people. It seems funny that this sport either brings out the best or worst in people. You seem to be a straight foward good guy and I'm sure your son got the lesson he needed by watching his dad handle things the right way. Don't lose faith brother they aren't all bad.

It's disgruntling when guyz just don't get it right. It's twice or more tougher when a young angler is in clsoe proximity of what could be called poor sportsmanship...includes language et al. Then on the other hand I know you charter Capt. Dom and here's a guy that works super hard to deliver the goods and ensure everyone gets in the game.

As a parent you can only review the days events with Anthony as he is getting a feel for what is good and what is not. It's tough to let go of it but that's just what you need to do and your days with your charter Captains will be more rewarding for you all. You, Anthony and the Cappy.

I know this is the NBS board so good for you for naming and flaming..let it go and enjoy the entire season. It's just starting

GMAN,

I can only say that I am guilty of fishing the last two days for a little while. On each charter I did however ask permission from the party if they would mind if I dropped a jig to help throw a few in the box. Everything we catch we throw in the box goes to the customers for them to take home. If it is me , the mate is running the deck and taking care of tangles, gaffing, etc. If it is the mate, I am doing his job. I have never had a customer say no and there is no loss of service. I am a firm believer we are there for the customer at all times.

What you had to experience is a shame and luckily with Anthony's experience and maturity he knows these folks were morrons. I ran a party boat last week and had a ball and once again was down on deck unhooking fish just as if it was my own charterboat.

Sorry you went through the ringer the last few trips, but the offshore season will be kicking into gear in a couple of weeks

As far as capts or mates fishing on a boat, it is common practice on six pack boats in many ports on common species for either the capt or mate to fish sometimes to help get fish in the box or turn a bite on....on a PB it is a completely different story. Unless it is a limited trip where the charter invites or okays a mate or capt. taking a few drops from time to time its one thing, but even on a light crowd, open boat trip its a big no-no

There are countless things a mate can be doing while on the fishing grounds to help the fares have a better, more enjoyable day.

With PBs, you have to try out different boats until you find your go to outfits for each species you like to catch. I drive distances just as you do searching out the best outfits. It sucks that you can't get on a decent bass PB down there close to home just yet, but I bet you will find a good one or a six pack that does open boats to bide your time until the real fish get here with a little searching. The PB experience is a good one on the right boat, and as stated it will teach Anthony alot about human nature.....

Let me start by saying this, Im not a complainer, and my son and I caught fish and had a ball regardless. I guess the reason for my post is I couldnt believe how grown men get about fish and how quickly things can get out of control when booze and a hot day are involved.

I havent been on a crowded head boat in years except limited charter tuna trips. This guy next to us had to be using flyline. It was like 130 hollowcore and constantly got tangled with the other 40 people. It was crazy

Dave...My issue with the unnamed captain and boat is this. There are less than 10 people onboard, 3 of which are kids no one is cutting bait, noone chunking, or pulling bluefish over the rail. They are eating or fishing LOL

Its what I get for going on part boats I guess

Just venting, tightlines guys and have a safe holiday

What made it worse, is you know me by now. I am the customer that comes on the boat and generally tips in advance. I find that when mates dont know if you are going to tip them they are reluctent to go the extra mile. Understandably they get burnt alot

I walked on and handed the mate a $20 bill and said just make sure we have fresh bait and check in every once and awhile. I spent all day getting our own dirty clams. I hate clams

It was a ball though I invited a guy I went to high school with, havent seen him in 2 years

In the middle of all this Anthony says "Dad call Dom, we need to go sharking soon, i dont like all these small fish" The guy next to me says "why dont you see if you can reel in a bluefish first son" ha ha I laughed so hard
