Sharkin, 6/11

My son, a friend and his son, and another friend decided to make an early season shark run yesterday, Sunday 6/10. We ran about 30 miles south of Montauk and setup in 59/60 deg greenish water. Blue shark city!! Started fishing around 7:15am and within 15min had our first shark on and it never stopped after that. By 9:30am we were all done catchin blue shark but decided to stick it out and sight fish. We managed to keep ourselves entertained by trying to sneak-out baits, playing with the blue sharks, catching blue fish and live baiting some blue fish. We actually could not sneak a bait out, all day!! Had the best runoff of the day on a live bait, but the fish somehow missed the hook. The east wind didn’t let down until later in the day. The wind made for a fast drift and half the ride in was a little lumpy. All in all a nice day to start off the sharking season. We found plenty of sharks, just have to work on color now!!

Thanks,
Pete

Pete, it sounds like you were on our boat. We also made the run out on sunday, to the ranger. Same experience with the blue sharks, fast action all day.

It was kind of a lumpy ride out, wasn't it? I especially liked surfing the standing waves at montauk.

congrats

gerg,
the ride out wasn't too bad, 1/2 the ride in was a little lumpy. lots and lots of blue ones, more than I've ever seen in one day.

Good to hear the sharks are making their way up again. I'll be hitting the claw soon enough.

Nice way to open the season Pete. Good way to work out any offseason kinks in the gear and fishermen with non-stop action. Now for some of the right ones to show up.
