RI sharkin 6/18 hey there, i'm new here, kind of. i think i registered on this forum a long time ago. i remember it looking much different. it seems to have grown quite a bit. i'm on a few forums, but have been looking for a forum with ri'ers and preferably boat fisherman. this forum seems to have a lot of that. we fish out of warwick ri and do inshore and offshore. we are thinking of heading out sharking this sat. we'll probably be heading out somewhere south of BI, hadn't decided yet. was thinking about the horns area. anybody know of any BFT's around that way? i know the star island is this week, i'm hoping it wont be too crazy out there.

You might want to pick another day next week or head in a different direction. The horns and a lot of other named spots are going to be a bit crowded this weekend. Rumor has it the Star Island tourney has close to 300 boats registered.

There are somewhere on the order of 600-700 boats competing in at least 3 LI shark tournies this weekend. Star Island (~300), freeport (~200), and hudson something or other (~200). It should be a good weekend for bait dealers. If you really want to combine tuna and shark, then hit the mudhole for tuna and pick a nearby location with reasonable temps for shark (suffolk, claw, etc).. The water really hasn't warmed up yet, and if anything has cooled somewhat in the last week. Going south will get you plenty of blue sharks, but you may need to go east for something to eat right now. Just a thunk.

There have been reports of boats catching and releasing 10 plus blue sharks a day at all teh local hotspots along with some Makos mixed in. I would however tell you to be prepared for traffic out there its going o be one hell of a weekend with all the tournaments. Enjoy

here's the report: got a late start saturday and headed out of narr bay. looked around mudhole and south of there towards suffolk. didnt see any signs of life and water was cold, 56-57 degrees. found a dragger near the suffolk, trolled around him lookin for bft, but nothing. marked some small fish, but nothing ever came to spread, but a bunch of porpoises. pulled in the spread and headed over the jenny's horn. found 59 degree water and lots of boats, but spread out pretty good. we found a clear spot and set up our slick. within 15 mins had our first runoff, but no joy. eventually the blue dogs appeared. we didnt have much fresh bait (bluefish) so we tried to use it sparingly...managed to hook up maybe 5-6 blue sharks. the biggest was maybe 150 lbs. they wouldnt touch our frozen baits, so we went home. it was a great day cuz i had two people who never shark fished before. one also got to fight a nice smaller shark on a bluefish rod. here are a bunch of pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() my friend thought he could remove the hook...yeah right, that didnt do anything but piss the shark off: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
