No Rumor I witnessed a guy catch a 50lb cobia just outside of the West Gap of Point Judith last year in August. I was on my way in when i noticed this guys rod bent in half and lined zipping off his reel. I thought that it was a huge bass or a possibly a Tuna. I had my dad and uncle on board who arent really into fishing so i decided to make a big loop around this guys boat so they could watch him fight the fish. The guy ended up yelling over to me and asking to use my gaff so now i had to stay and watch the whole fight. 30 minutes later he landed the Cobia. Sick fighting fish....making long runs each time the angler got it close to the boat. The guy said he was fluking and the fish hit a Spro bucktail. ![]() Brian Droney ALBATROSS

There were several caught over the course of a couple of weeks late last August. All were caught by accident. mostly by bass fishermen fishing eels.

odder things happen While we were in Florida in a sailfish tourney, a boat next to us calls us on the radio and tells us he has a huge school of giant bluefin tuna under his boat Last month an angler fishing the flats in Key West saw what he thought was a large shark in the flats so he picthed a bait to it and it ended up being a 350lb swordfish More and more I think we will find species of gamefish that will be out of place like the 15ft great white shark that ended up in the shallow water pond/estuary in Mass a couple of years ago

If you remember correctly we had extremely warm water in Rhode Island and Block Island sound last August. My records indicate that i caught BlueFin and SkipJack Tuna right in front of Brenton Reef in Newport last year on 8/12 with 76 degree water. I think a warm eddy broke off of the gulf stream and pushed all the way into the RI and MA coast. I also remeber people talking about Tarpon being caught out on Nantucket.....Hopefully this happens again this year. I will be on 65 tomorrow if anyone is heading out. Plan on leaving the dock at 4am and fishing the Bay. Good Luck this weekend everyone!! ![]() -Brian
