don't get all freaked out about ethanol just yet. there are so many things that can cause what you describe. The problems with ethanol are much more related to gunk than with phase seperation. if you run the racor 10micron and the inline to boot, you shouldn't be having any problems.
to me it sounds like a gummed up carb.
How mechanically inclined are you?
