| 6/19 Tuna Report Spent Monday night on my friends Scott's boat anchored up off of Chatham before heading out east in search of some Tuna. The night Bass fishing only produced a few Blues and some hefty doggy dogs...... Headed East of Chatham at 3 am and were trolling an area just south east of the BC buoy by 5 am. Spot was loaded with whales, porposes, and thousands of shearwaters and storm petrels.....Figured we were about to hammer em right off the bat but little did I know we were going to have to put our time in on this day..... We trolled right through the middle of the madness for the next 4 hours with only 2 big boils behind our long riggers but no hookups Saw a few boats hooked up and heard some talk that others were having luck. We tried everything we could but just didnt have any luck. At 9am we gave up and decided to head East in search of a big fish....We stumbled upon one of the most impressive offshore displays of marine life I have ever seen.....Many many whales feeding constantly on the surface, hundreds of porposes, seals, thousands of birds, a spotter plane and a stick boat. We decided to give this a shot....trolled right between this madness and got a few more swings and misses....Now we started checking for Bananas and any other signs of bad luck on the boat because we figured we were cursed. Finally at 1:00 a nice fatty came up and slammed the long rigger and we were on nice 65" fish with a huge belly that we estimated at 180-200lbs. We released him and got the lines back out and grabbed two more smaller fish, one 48" and the other 55". We had several other swings and misses as well and at 3:30 we called it a day. Really had to work for those fish yesterday which was odd cosidering all the life out there. Great day weather wise. Winds were variable and seas were glass.....Tight lines and good luck everyone ![]() Brian Droney ALBATROSS |
