Sharkin, Sat 6/23

Decided to give sharkin another wack yesterday. In the last few weeks we’ve caught at least 50 blue sharks west of Montauk. My thought was that the big slug of blue sharks would have moved through that area by this week and some makos and threshers would be behind them. Additionally, yesterday’s forecast was looking a little challenging, 15k wind out of the NW, fishing south of LI might be more comfortable than fishing east of Montauk. We were right on a few things; the big slug of blue sharks may have moved through and it was a relatively comfortable place to fish, but we didn’t find any mako or threshers. Actually we only caught one blue shark all day! That honor went to Eric and he made short work of what we all agreed was a world class blue shark!! Catching only one blue shark all day felt strange as the least few weeks, you couldn’t keep the blue shark of the line. I also felt kind of bad as I know a few of the crew would have enjoyed catching a few blue sharks.

Eric (74formula23389000) joined me, my son, Chris, Doug and Garrett. We left Mystic around 4:45 and headed over to Montauk and than we were gonna cruise 40 miles SW to what looked like 64deg water. The ride west was a little much and putting more south in our west made a big difference in the ride. So we ended up a little short of our destination at the 30f fingers south of Shinnicock. My temp gauge looks to need replacement, but I guess the water temp at only 60deg. We fished in 4/5’s with 15/20K NW wind most of the day. Things did settle down in the afternoon and the ride in was very nice. All in all I think we had a very nice day and we worked fairly hard most of the day to try and get a rally going. We put in a good effort, just no fish. Oh, there most of been a tournament out of Shinnicock as there were more boats than I expected. There were two parkers that decided to head in before the seas layed down, and they were getting pounded as they were heading right into the wind. I don’t know way they didn’t stick it out as the chance that things would lay down were pretty high.

Thanks,
pete

"World Class Blue" LOLOL.......ok, we'll leave it at that hahahaha

I still think it was because I went and picked up extra tags Friday.....LOL

Anyway, thanks again Pete, it was still a great day out, and just the beginning

I know what it's like when you hammer the sharks in an area consistently and then they are just GONE......lol........either that or they had lockjaw.....

Seemed the chatter was consistent with our results as well.

Great to meet Chris, Doug, Garret, and to "re-meet Re-Pete"
