Left Norwalk with my buddy (former member Blackcloud) Monday afternoon loaded with bunker and headed to Montauk. Got up early and picked a few blues off the point and headed SE. It was a slow go at first; but we were the only game in town out there (nice) and it didn't take long for the sharks to find us. The blue dogs were cutting through the slick right off the stern at warp speed - I had no idea they could move that fast. All the baits went off at once and I knew I had something different on - 45 minutes or so later he was in the boat - 210 lbs. Weighed in at Star Island by 3pm - back to Norwalk by 8. I would like the thank Brian - the mate from Barry Kohlus' "Venture" - who cleaned the fish for us. Brian is one of the nicest guys you can fish with out there and has been mating on the Venture for 17 years.
Side note - I hung out with Frank Mundus for a while at SIYC. He was selling t-shirts and autographed copies of his book for 30 bucks. He was quick to inform me that we didn't really catch the shark because we used a dart. I was quick to inform Frank that I was not fishing a tournament and could care less how he felt about my fish. The guy is a piece of work - loves to argue and fight with people. Told me a long story abouth the people that had the Cricket II prior to him re acquiring it and how they ripped him off. Oh well; lets just say I didn't buy a shirt or a book....
