Thresher

7 ft body, 12.5 foot to the tip of the tail, about 250 - 300 lbs.

Sat night, last minute invitation for sunday - guy on our dock asks if I'll show him how to manage a shark trip. He has 3 pals coming and needed some help as he's only been out for shark once or twice before. He wants to go to the acid barge, I took him to the horns instead.

Left at 5:30 - got there at about 9:00 (got side tracked on a HUGE school of schoolies pushing up bait 1/2 way to Montauk, thought they were bluefish)

Set up the chum bucket, some bunker oil, bluefish fillets for hook baits, balloons set -

I pulled everyone to the cockpit to go over the details, who does what and when, if a shark takes a bait. I turn around and this monster breaches 20 feet into the air about 100 feet behind the transom...we're staring with our jaws on the deck....

He took the middle bait and all hell breaks loose - whatta blast! One hour, 45 minutes to get him to the flying gaff - luckiest gaff I ever did too - severed his aorta - made a blood slick like I've never seen before.

We were back into the marina by 3:00 -

Very nice. Nothing like having a cooperative Thresher show up while you gather the crew to go over a few details. Congrats on a great day. Looks like the sharking is heating up.

Great Shark. That gaff shot was skillfully placed if anyone asks. Good job.

Thumbs up Grilled Thresher

The Admiral takes a nice thick steak and rubs some olive oil then a ton of fresh garlic and a bit of lemon touch of pepper

On a screaming hot grill sear the sides to lock in the flavor and finish in the oven if needed.

The secret is not to overcook shark

See you real soon down that line..nice work
