New Jersey Fluking

We have been having a great season down here with the fluking. We have not broke the 10 LB mark yet this year, but have been getting a lot of fish in the 4 - 6 LB Class and I got one two weeks ago that was 27" long and weighed 8 LBS. We have been getting a lot of keepers and each weekend we manage to piece together a nice catch. The best success is still coming from using a 3 way swivel with a 3 - 6 OZ Spro Jig (depending on the speed of the drift) attached to the dropper loop instead of a bank sinker. I also bait the hook on the spro jig, but I use a shorter strip as to not foul up the Action. The only challenge is dicerning the bite on the jig and the bite on the baited hook. I have started to fish more with the drag engaged on my bait casting reel for the times when the fish slams the jig. When the fish is on the baited hook, you will get that familiar hanging type of bite.

All in all a good season thus far and I look forward to getting out with Jim from ARCTEK, Roy and Eric. Hopefully we can get a blackfish tournament together this year!!

Ron

Nice report Ron. Many years ago Maggie and I fished fluke that way. Most hits were on the trailing bait but when the jig got a hit it was usually very hard. We used a fluke belly strip on the jig.

Great report Ron,

I've had a couple of decent outings this year, i usually just use a bucktail with a gulp teaser about 15 inches above the jig and that has been producing. Last friday i fished a PB so I went to dragging bait, i used a 4" gulp shrimp (penny color) and a piece of squid on a plain hook, fishfinder rig and had 7 keepers ... nothing huge, but i caught a lot of fish... looks like the flatties are gearing up to get out of dodge.....catchem up...
