Blues Everywhere

Some of my fishing buddies, with bigger boats than me, have told me that this has not been the greatest of bluefishing seasons. I only work out of 16 foot skiff so the Race is out for me. Do not have a clue as to what is happening out there. However, for the last couple of days, it seems the Bluefish are every where. The coves are loaded with peanut bunker, and just outside of the coves there is a mix of peanut bunker with full sized bunker. I am not completely sure about this, but the tons of baitfish in so close to shore is holding the blues in very close to shore as well. This business of matching the hatch seems to be nonsense. The blues I have caught have been loaded with peanut bunker that were less than an inch long. I have yet to throw a lure at them that they did not hit with gusto including the massive #3 1/2 hopkins. Their feeding frenzy has been so intense that I would not dare to put my hand in the water for fear of losing a finger or two. This sort of thing happens every year around Sept/Oct, but I do not recall it happening in mid-summer.
