Trip report

Im back...what a weekend. As I previously posted I went on a long range inshore trip out of Bilioxi, Mississippi to a remote set o offshore islands known as the Chandeluer Islands. The target was big bul reds and sea trout.

We left thursday night at midnight after making a withdrawl at the Isle of Capri Casino (yeah baby) and steamed out at 10 knots on a 100'ft mothership

4 hours later, after making a deposit in a game of poker (damn it) and dinking more beer than i should have we arrived at 4am. Got 2 hours of sleep before loading up into a 10ft skiff. Myself and my co worker started our day although i was disapointed with the boats. They are suppossed to supply us with 3 things...a gps unit with the pre loaded hot spots as it isnt guided, a radio, incase you get introuble in the hsark infested waters and a boat.

All we got was the boat and some dierections which is no way to cater to customers. I have no frigging clue where to go. So we headed out and proceeded to get grounded in 3 inches of water fairly quick and had to wait for the bullsharks to leave before getting out and pushing the skiff. Not a good start

We managed 3 decent 8-20 trout and we lost a 40+ lb monster bull redfish. Got back to the boat, ate lunch and headed back out. We saw massive amounts of birds working a sanbar and cut to the ocean so we proceeded over there and it was huge school of lady fish being destroyed by sharks in the flats...an awesome site as the whole backs of the sharks were out as they were in less than 12 inches of water. Without my shark gear which was left at the boat for the day I was daydreaming of getting my first bullshark, but i needed to keep an eye on the prize as we were searching for trout.

UNFORTUNATELY the water temps were in the 90's so the fish were non existant.

I got my had stuck my a hardhead catfish which exctretes a toxin which hurts like hell and had to have the spike pulled out with pliers and then got a bad fever. oh joy

The next 2 days were un eventfull and almost fishless becuase the water temps rose to over 95 degrees. tried sharking but they ventured out of the flats and into deeper water and I was chasing them in a 10'ft skiff

happy to be home safe and sound to see my family who I havent talked to since thursday. Great Islands awesome views but we managed only 20 fish in 3 days of fishing which sucks. I caught a huge sting ray who almost dumped 300 yards of 30lb braid on a small stella reel, thought it was a redfish until he came flapping up on the surface before a shark devoured him, had to be 4' across

tightlines

Glenn

will post some pictures of the awesome sky's later, no real good fish pics couldnt bring myself to be excited about 4 lb fish

I gotta believe the views alone made the trip worthwhile.
