Sunday Flat calm and great bite

Left the dock in Haddam, yes Haddam at 2:30 am Sunday morning, As we rounded montauk point at 30mph my buddy asked me to set teh gps to the area I wanted to go to. I had picked about 10-15 miles east of the tails based on some advice and the latest temp chart which showed a slight temp break in the area. As we started getting close to the area 10 miles we saw some life whales feeding we went lines in and trolled around them for a little while with 1 hit which peeled a little drag and was gone. Ok time to stop messing around we pulled the lines and ran the last 8 miles to the spot. Lines in again and nothin as we trolled east in 650 feet of water I truned the boat to the south and all hell broke loose. 5 rods solidly hooked up and one that got knocked down but it just missed the hook in the bally. We went 4/5 on nice big albies with the one lost at the boat as it was about to be gaffed.

There were only 3 of us in the boat and 1 of the 3 was an offshore virgin so fighting, gaffing and keeping the boat straight was crazy. So after getting the fish bled iced and hosing down the boat lines are going in almost instantly the green machine gets hit and this is a better fish. After a good fight a 70-80lb yellow fin is iced.

We lost the fish for an hour or so but a boat that had trolled past us when we had 5 on and hooked up as well was working about 1/2 mile south and radio chatter indicated he was on fish and was calling his buddies with coordinates. We trolled over towards him and every 5-10 minutes it was fishon on a mix of real nice yellows and big fat albies. This was trolling in a very tight pattern with about 8-10 other boats at one point every boat was hooked up except one.

We managed 1 more Albie and one more nice 60-70 Yellow in the boat and decided that was enough. We left teh small fleet hearing radio chatter of "I have another double" "Well we have another triple"

We did loose one large fish not sure what after about 30 minutes the tail must have beat the 200lb leader to the point of breaking.

Fish ate everything from Ballyhoo, to green machines to 4 inch squid daisy chains in a variety of colors. Final tally was 7 fish in boat 4 or 5 knock downs and 6 fish that peeled drag lost due to poor angling. Water temp was 70.6-71.2 and 750 feet was the magic number. Most fish were marked down around 125 and then 30 seconds later erupted in the spread. Ride in we cruised at 37mph over the glassy surface

Nice work on the tuna!!! one heck of a load of fish in short order.. I bet the Newbe is hooked!!!!

Nice Work Fishon! We cant seem to buy an Albie this year.....Now that I think about it, it might be 2 years since we have caught them.....Nothing better than making a tuna salad with fresh longfin!
