Glad u got out Pat! Hope your motor problems aren't too bad.......obviously you got in

Friend of mine went out to acid barge/shark's ledge and had a Thresher bang around a live blue, but never connected......and I think he said a blue dog came and ate the rest of what the thresher left.....and that was it.

After some sleep I feel better now.

We left New Haven about 5 am. The sound was very calm and we made it to montauk by 6:40 am. Ran into the marine basin and topped off the tank.
We headed to the point and found some good size rollers. No big deal so we pressed on. I figured it would calm down after i got thru the rips (it didnt) I made it to the area a couple miles south of the acid barge and was getting the gear ready but I really didnt feel luck there so I decided to run to the gully. The water was beautiful and the rollers were not bad while drifting . The water temp was 67. I put out the chum and set 2 rods out. within 20 mins I saw a fin far back but never came close. About 2 hours into it we hooked up with a small blue shark in the 100 lbs range. He didnt fight much until I got him near the boat then went nuts. An hour later we had a good run that I thought was a bigger fish. This one ran deep and didnt want to come up. When it did it was another blue alittle bigger than the first. It was pretty much dead after that.
We called it quits about 1:30 and took a beating heading back to montauk. We docked at montauk marine basin for a couple of hours to get something to eat at Lennys. There was also 2 blackfins I wanted to look at but I was only able to find one of them and the owner wasnt around.

Well now its getting late and the wife has work monday so we get back to the boat , I start it up untie the lines, Then motor alarms go off. I have the smart gauges on the boat. They say it is over heating. No way its been running under a minute and its pumping water. at this point I have only 3% throttle due to the engine gardian. we get back on the dock and I shut it down. Pull the cover off. The heads are cool. looks like a sensor went bad. the marine basin has a big banner up that say marine mechanic on duty. Nobody in there knew anything about it. Now Im $hitting my pants because my wife will kill me If we are stuck there. They send me across the channel to Uihleins who are a mercury dealer. Now they have some big event going on there for frank mundus. I find the owner Henry not expecting much. He stopped what he was doing and tried to contact his mechanics. They all left at noon. Mean while he told me to keep the boat on his dock and he would track some one down.
I go back to the boat and start playing with the motor. At this point I just want to get back to home water and Christi home. I start un pluging the temp sensors to try to bypass the bad one. I have 3 on that motor. 2 are in the heads and the other on the block. the second one I unplug the alarm shuts off. The Captain of the Viking party boat was also giving me a hand on things to try so I can get home. Now I have no alarm but the gauges are reading sensor fault and im limited to 3/4 throttle. Good enough for me. I know I was taking a chance but I still had 2 temp sensors working. away we went thank god!!!! i kept a close eye on the temp of the motor and made sure it was pumping water the whole trip home. The waters were calm and made it back in at 7:30 pm.
It was a pretty eventfull day

Pat, despite the motor troubles (the sensors seem to cause more problems then they prevent), I hope you and Christi had a nice day on the water and a nice meal. Glad you both made it back and that it doesn't sound like you ended up in the doghouse.

very un-nerving having chit happen with your boat when there is a ton of blood, guts and sharks surrounding the boat. LMAO glad you both got back safe and sound
