8/29 Report NE of the Tails

I know I'm a little late but thought I would get my first post out of the way with a quick report on our trip on 8/29.

We went out to the 625/425 area and trolled SW. The weather was perfect and we obviously were not the only ones who thought that temp break looked promising! Can you say parking lot?? Anyways trolled for a while and finally picked up 2 albies, 1 of which was huge. We saw several boats hooked up also. Strange thing, we didn't see any mahi at all. All the flyers were bare. We never got warmer than 71 on the water temp either. There were whales and porpoise in the area also.

Going out Sunday in search of a mako. I'll post a report when I get back. (Hopefully sooner than 3 days later!!).

There weren't many inside the canyons either, most of the pots had been checked that morning, which probably scattered them. At night, a lobster boat came in with its lights blazing, and kicked off a few boats from their poly balls. A capt. came on the radio on 68 and warned everyone, instantly about 5 or 6 boats went drifting, LOL. We had a good view from the deep looking back up into the canyon, lots of boats! Talked to a boat in the am who was one of the unplanned drifters, said he hooked 2 swords and a 80 pound yellow about 30 minutes after he let go of his "mooring"

Drifting produces more than being "balled up" quite often. I never understood why so many guys like to just sit in one spot all the time. I understand the complacency of being tied up and that it is sometimes more comfortable in rough seas.....but the fish aren't always up on the top of the edge.
