| "Tammy Rose" 200 tuna mark. Well hello fish fans, it has been too long since I last posted an update. I have never fished this hard or this much before. Back to back to back tuna trips have left me alittle dazed and cunfused. The last two weeks have been awesome with lots of great fishing for the school bluefin tuna. We have been averaging 6-8 fish on every trip with some bigger days thrown in every once and awhile. The fish are running from 46-51 inches and we have had many over the 60 inch mark. In fact we have caught more 60 inch plus fish this year then in the last two seasons. The full moon and clear nights last week took a toll on the bite and it slowed way down for us. We went from landing 8 fish to 1 fish to none in three days. My first, and only second, skunk of the season. The last trip we had was on Friday and we had 4 fish to the boat from 46 inches to 51 inches so the bite was on the up swing. Spreader bars are the key for sure this year. I get a few on the chains but the bars are really hot. This fish are bigger and smarter. My good friend Capt. Art won the fish of the year award by trolling up a 500lb tuna on a spreader bar right next to be last weekend. He had his good friend Chuck Connors from Eastham on the rod and he fought it on a 50w for over two hours on 80lb mono. Just an awesome fish. Capt. Art had his family out and his lovely wife Susanne, a\k\a "The Rock Babe", gave us the play by play until Art got the fish pooned. Great job brother. Last Monday we had our third tagging trip with Dr. Molly and her team from UNH and we were able to get 8 more mini pop up tags on these schoolie bluefin tuna. We have now tagged 18 tuna with this brand new technology and I am excited to see the data. We have broken the 200 tuna mark for the season so we are well on our way to another awesome year. The fishing will continue this fall and my September is already booked soild and sold out and I am taking a few bookings for October but the wind makes that month tough. I am also open for the Hyannis Tuna Tournamment that runs from Friday the 12th to Sun the 14th. If you have 4 guys who would like to fish this give me a call and I will lay out the details. It is a big money event and can be a great time. If you are looking for a tuna charter this Sept. feel free to give the shop a call and we can point you in the right direction with two other boats that I fish with. Thanks alot and we will see you out there. Capt. Eric |
