| another mako this weekend Headed out sunday morning with hoopa, Chris HC Tankis, and chris buddy Tim. HC Tankis and Tim are bothe shark virgins!!! Launched out of Falmouth at 7:00 am and headed out to find some blues.. And again as usual we suck at finding blues when we need them. We trolled around vinyard sound for about and hour or so and all we had was another big Bonito who desided to hit an umbrella rig, go figure. We had some fresh bluefish filets and 2 dozen whole mackeral so we desided to get out to the grounds and see what we could do with them. Got out to the area we planed on in the claw area and found a really nice temp break from 66.5 to 69.7 over less then a 1/4 mile and super clean ice blue water, so we set up for the drift.. Chum out, lines out, and lunch is served. Our drift started out at around 1 1/2 knts and slowed over 3 hours till it died. Nothing happened for about and hour and a half and then we got our first runoff on the long rod (Bonito Filet) it was a short runoff and when hoopa set the hook there was nothing there. I think whatever it was did not hit the bait just got wraped up in the line.. About 30 mins later we get another runoff on the long rod. This time we got tight. HC Tankis was first on the rod and belted in. 25 mins later we had a nice 68" CFL mako bleading, tail roped, and swiming backwards behind the boat.. Sharkin Cherry #1 broken... ReSet the spread and 30 min after the last rod was out we get another strong runoff. It is Tim's turn on the rod and he has a good one. This fish hit the 50VSW and took half the spool on the first run and another 1/4 of the spool over the next 50 mins. About an our into the fight Tim was able to Stale mate this fish and did a "give and take" for another 40 mins, Then he started to gain line slowly and it took him another 60 mins to get the fish almost strait up and down. Then stail mate again 45 more min. When we got the fish to the boat we could not believe the size of this blue shark. It was the bigest blue i have ever seen. This fish was all of 10'+ . After checking the Weight estimate chart this fish would be between 400 and 500 lbs.. WOW Anyone care to confirm or correct this as i have not caught a blue shark this big before!!!! After a bunch of quick pics, and some video footage, we cut this BIG, girl loose, and called it a day Time was running short, we had our mako, and 2 busted sharkin cherries, so we headed for the barn with 2 very happy friends who got to play "tug o war" with thier first sharks.. I don't know what we did or are doing right but Hoopa and I must have done somthing to make the fish gods like us so much. We continue to have a great year and put fish in the boat, and the best part of the year is just getting going.... I can't wait to see what it brings to the boat.. ![]() ![]() ![]() Pics will follow tomorrow when everyone sends them to me....

| In the shark reference books, they estimate an 11' Blue Shark, Male, to be around 300#. Their estimates are typically quite low. |
