RI Tog & Tuna Report

Fished Sat. some of the rock piles South of the West Bay entrance. Using clams, green crabs, & spider crabs we were able to boat a handful of keeper tog with the biggest being 6 pounds. We lost two nice ones that we just couldn't muscle out of the rock pile

, and threw back a dozen shorts. I hope our day is an indication of the good fall tog fishing on the horizon.

Sunday we decided (after a report from a local lobster man) to head for the Fairway buoy at first light. Upon arrival we found a couple dragger's working the area. We were able to get behind one of them and no sooner did and we had doubles. Landed one small BFT and we lost the other while trying to clear rods. Setup the troll again heading towards the Gully. Grabbed a BIG, I mean BIG False Albie on a cedar plug, and another 27" BFT on a RDT black/purple spreader bar. Headed towards the Mud Hole (which was a parking lot) and after seeing the amount of Lobster gear, and boats with slicks, we decided to troll the perimeter of the whole area. On the North end we slammed another 27" BFT on a RDT spreader blue/white. Then another on a hex head with green/orange feathers. Trolled our way west, and slammed another 30" BFT on the cedar plug, and kept him for the grill (we were hungry at that point). Ended up being a great day on the water. Talked to a boat at the dock who landed some decent sized BFT at the Claw. The majority of the hits were in tight. The bars run way back didn't produce a strike. Hmmmmmmmm..........

Nice fishing. Our short bars typically bring in the YFT or school size BFT. The larger BFT usually come on the long lines which we rig with the Jet/Bird combos or one our new super slammers with a bally hoo. Goog fishing, keep the reports coming.

Ordered one of your bars a week or so ago with birds. Never ran one with birds so I'm curious to see how they run.

Nice report. Since I am an inshore guy I am certainly excited to hear that you are getting a tog bite already.

John,
You'll like the bird bars. They add stability to the bar so it will runn better in rougher water. You can also run them further back..... i.e. where the bigger BFT are..
