Went fishing Tuesday just before the sun came up. With the first early dawn light, I never saw so many schools of bait fish just north of the White Rock area, Eastern fisher's island sound. The morning was dead calm, but one could see a roughness on the surface. Watching closely, I realized these large patches were peanut bunker. The amount of bait fish present would have to be measured in acres. With this much bait out there, it is like a calling card for some great inshore fishing. One might need some luck (or at least good timing) in being there when game fish are feasting, but they will be there. As the fall approaches, I suspect there is going to be some of the greatest fishing, in close, than we have had in years. |
