Bliz, great points, and in many ways mirrors of my sentiments.
Unfortunately, I firmly believe that violence or serious civil upheaval at the very minimum is the only way to achieve the change. The
distribution of wealth touched on in many other topics but especially in the immigrant issue will prevent even a unanimous and total effort by every middle class, halfway intelligent legal US citezen of voting age. Money taints the very core of everything political in this country. Perot had it right when he stated that the simple answer to many of our domestic issues was money, and nothing else. He was more interested in economically fixing this country, which would indeed take a huge strain off of many of the countries problems, in fact almost all. I remember him saying he had no political experience and that his prowess as a businessman should be the only criteria the American public should judge him by. He flat out admitted he would need a true brain trust of talented cabinet members and advisors to asisst him. Despite his many other shortcomings, I feel he was 100% correct in that our money problems are the root of most of our evil.
Everytime there is a tragic earthquake, tidal wave, or other international/global disaster, we are the first to send our help in the form of people and money.
Whenever humans screw up royaly and create civil problems like AIDS epidemic in Africa for example, we are the first to send aid in the form of people and money.
Whenever an animal species is threatened by human encroachment or pressure, we are the only nation to send aid in the form of money and people.
Whenever terroism or opression of some foreign peoples' basic human rights are called into question, we are the first to send aid in the form of money, and especially people; usually military in these cases.....
Were there any major allies people or monies sent over en masse for a relief effort after 9/11?
Were there any British or other European countries versions of Farm Aid concerts, or any rlief efforts en masse to help the families struck by the hurricanes of 05, or the tornados of 2003??
Has any of those same European countries paid back even one single dime of the bailout money we debted to help them rebuild after WWII, never mind the interest after 50 plus years???
I say we need to stop the giving as well, but how about taking it one step further and reclaiming all the money taken from us by the EU, while their new Euro kicks the shit out of the dollar daily???!!!!????
I still say unfortunately lots of bad things would have to occur to correct the path we have chosen for ourselves....Scary to say the least, in a country where 1/4 of the nation is armed or better.
