hi new guy

Hi all, name is Alex, and had trouble signin up before, but tried again today and worked.

I am from Argentina original, but moved to western states for 10 years ago. Just moved to newport in RI, and tried Dom to the offshore in october for tunas. WE caught 2 small bluefins tuna, and fight big shark for long time. It was biggest fish i evr saw in my life, but we lost it for line snapped. I thought it was great white, but captain say it was mako.

Can't wait till spring to try out fishing in eastern state for stripped bass and halibut from shore, and go to offshore to catch that shark this rtime.

thanks for warm elcome. I have much to read up on in winter. Lots of good info on your board here. I am learning already that your halibut are called fluke. They llook like halibuts from baja sur where i fish lots past few years. I am surf fisherman, but am to learn for offshore fish too.

Alejandro!

Que paso mi amigo?

You finally signed up. I was wondering when you would pop up here. Lots of great info to get you started on your quest for those flatfish you love so much.

I never put a post up about that shark for some reason as I was very busy that week.....I wasn't all that upset, was I? I told you guys did nothing wrong nor did I, there was no way we were ever gonna land that pig on a shimano 30 with 40 pound test.

We hooked an estimated 1000 plus pound mako in the mudhole in early October. We had seen a 100 pound class mako seconds before while chunking BlueFin Tuna, so I dropped a wire rig in on a tld 30 2 speed. Balloon was moving away in seconds after I got it in. Took my time, set the hook, and the line just peeled off, steady and slow....not a 100 pounder, for sure. Pulled us almost 7 miles in 5 hours to the west edge of coxes, we never gained one inch of line on that fish, only way I could get line back was to run up on the fish.... Didn't get to see her till she cleared the surface, coming back at the boat. Fish was so big she came out on an angle, and just sort of dropped straight back in as her girth was too immense to clear the water fully. She smiled at us as she broke the line and disappeared. I still think the shark had no clue it was hooked until the 4th hour or so, when the fight changed slightly.

That was the second heartbreak this year, Glenns lost thresher and that monster of a lifetime. I still get sick to my stomach everytime I think about it.....
