After driving over 900 miles roundtrip on Wednesday to pick up a new boat(yes, all in 1 day), I hopped in the car at 1am and made the drive to Hyannis. I was able to briefly rest on the way out, and we were fishing by 6:45, sun still not up.
The fishing all day was tough, slow pick. No drift at all really, and a good hour of slack water where only a few foul hooked fish and a couple of skates were landed. The fishing appears to be winding down on the open bottom, although still very good catches in relation to the fishery these days.
I used a 12 ounce Lav all day, with a white codfly. I was able to do much better than those around me in the stern, except for the duo of Chris Conkol and Eben, who put on a good show in the port corner. I ended up with 28 keepers total, all markets. Had a good number of short throwbacks as well, probably 15 or so. I also dropped a bunch more, as early in the day they all seemed to be foul hooked, and quite a few rolled off half way up. Had a porbeagle follow up a cod, but he took one look at this pure shark killers eyes and never showed again.
It was nice meeting CConkol in person finally, just as nice a kid face to face as he is online.
