Walsh report 2/22

Was fortunate to be asked along on a private charter aboard the Walsh 's American Classic on Friday, as second captain.(a fancy way of saying I got to fish for FREE) My only official duties were to bring the boat back in, at a nice 11 knot putt, on the way home!

I fished a 14 ounce Lav Jig all day, with a blue cod fly as teaser. The fishing was insane, although I had a huge number of throwbacks today, which seems a good sign that there are some fresh recruits out east. I had numerous doubles, and the fish were very aggressive, following the jigs sometimes 4-5 cranks off the bottom while squidding. The charter was a great group of guys, who had mandated no bait on board, so a true jigging experience for the whole boat, making for very few tangles and lots of experienced anglers.

I threw back any fish that were not 25 inches long, and still had tooo many keepers by noon, when we called it quits, so I gave the crew a good amount. The snow held off all morning, but came on strong towards 1-3, while transitting back in. The only other boat we heard or saw was the cutter Ida Lewis, so quite fortunate to have snuck in the trip before the storm. Ride home took 3.5 hours instead of the usual 1, as there was an accidentat the Rte. 3 split

Now its off to Ambergris Cay on Sunday, what a life...who says theres no future in fishing?
