| Dear Capt. Maxon, Thank you for your email. I do apologize that some of the people you know have never received their rewards. There are a few possibilities for this: There are other cod tagging programs in the region and I am not sure what their reward policy is. If we receive tags from those other programs, we forward the information to the respective program and send a letter to the person who sent us the tags informing them of this procedure. We expect the relevant tagging party to take it from there. Another possibility is that if a cod tag was caught on a charter trip, whoever’s information is given with the tag information receives the reward. For example, if a customer on a charter trip calls in the tag, the customer receives the reward. As you mentioned, sometimes, a captain or crew member will call in the tag and they might give us the customer’s information. We can only give out one reward per fish, so we send the reward to the person whose name is given with the tag information. Finally, we can only send out rewards to those who have provided us an address – believe it or not, sometimes we get a message on our toll-free line and the caller doesn’t leave their name or phone number, making it difficult to call them back! We make every effort to reward every tag that is called in, provided we have enough information to send out the reward. Every call is returned. Often, a call will be returned and a message will be left (sometimes 3-4 times) to clarify the information left on the message, then we will never get a call back, leaving us with incomplete information, making it difficult to send out a reward. If your friends who have not received their rewards feel comfortable, please have them either email me or call me on the toll-free tagging line at 1-866-447-2111 and I will be more than happy to look into why they may not have received their rewards. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience and I can certainly understand their frustration at not receiving their reward. Thank you for your support of our program and please continue to look for yellow and blue cod tags – there are still a lot out there! Best regards, Sarah Sarah L.
