When I was in NC this winter, the first mate, Wahoonbox, fished a planer on a dedicated Planer Rod. The working line was on another rod.

I remember the rod being pretty short, stiff and it was a bend butt with 80's.

Hopefully Capt Mike of Bluefin Charters can jump on this thread and give you some good info. on where to get these rods. They were very popular down in Morehead City, NC.

Jyhootie I use a planer rod in 2 different ways.... 1 is more like a down rigger the other is inline with a bridal system... PM me and I can go over how I use the planer rod and give you any info I can....

If I were going to have a planer rod made I would have someone who has made many of them not a place that has made maybe 2 or 3 of them... I dont plug rod builders online ( like other people ) but I will tell you in a PM who I use ... There is a certin way and length that works better than others....

Out of the 12 giants we caught this season in NC 8 of them were caught useing the planer rod with a release system with a rubber band to the 130....

If there is interest I will write a post about the 2 planer systems and how to use them

Capt. Mike,

I'm interested in how these things work. They seem useful, but are outriggers more effective in spreading the lines? Any explaination would be greatly appreciated.. These planers interest me

Capt. Mike,

I would love to read a post on how you guys caught them down in NC on planers.
The Planer systems seems like a great addition to the bag of tricks.

Laguna - these planers are used for going down into the depts not out to the side.
