I put a half a doz. P-Line 5 in. squid plastic skirts in bunker oil to "marinade" for a while (a few weeks),and plan on tying up some fluke rigs. Do you think that this is going to make a differance, or am I just being "anal"?

It certainly will make a difference in how your house smells now. LOL

Not sure if the skirts will really absorb much of the scent. I've used small cut squares of sponge and dipped them into bunker oil then insert them into the rubber skirt prior to dropping the rig. Caught well but didn't compare them to untreated skirts at the same time. Seems everything stunk of bunker and it also gives a nice slick for a bit. you can just put the sponge squares into a ziplock or jar with bunker oil and periodically change them out.
p.s. the only thing I've found to get bunker stench off your hands is tooth paste.

Last year while fluking, I put some bunker strips on the jigs and it produced pretty well. The same day I used squid, mummies, and some bunker strips. All caught but it seemed the bunker strips did pretty well. I was using ThomCat rigs and a jig as my weight.

I think the sponge idea sounds pretty good. Can't hurt to soak the skirts though.

I have noticed that a very fresh bluefish fillet cut into taperd and thin strips that drift well in the water column will produce fast action,often luring larger fish.,the fish oil scent must have alot to do with it.BAITS must be checked often being of soft texture.

bluefish stips work well and are soft,but if you salt them in brine the nite before they still retain there freshness and stay on hook longer.
