Great read on the planer rod set up. I spent a week with Capt. Mike fishing for the giants in January down in North Carolina, great trip. After a couple times of seeing the set up and deployment of the planer with the Box I saw how usefull a system it is.
A couple recomendations, when you connect the tag line to main line use two good quality rubberbands. A lot tension is put on this point and you do not want to spend time setting up agian if it breaks. You must deploy the planer rod and your main rod at the same time, remember how deep the the planer rod is out. As Capt. Mike mentioned, he has colored line to measure the desired depth that he wants to fish at.
I am sure that Capt. Mike can make a list of tips and tricks on this set up if asked. Can not wait til the Northeast season kicks off on the Bluefin to get the planer set up in action. |
