RIGHT around the corner Carnage, Pure carnage. Thats what runs through my mind as I make the long journey north from New Jersey to the great state of Rhode Island every year in search of the the powerful sleek shark that haunts me in my sleep. Not the little ones but the big girl I envision in my sleep appearing in our slick. I hit the GW bridge and my mind starts daydreaming from our long ride to hearing a screaming drag. By the time I enter into Coneticut I start getting restless because its such a long state. Once we are in Rhode Island my mind is already picturing our quarry circling the boat, Im already hearing the pick up, the short little run offs before we come tight on the mystery fish at the end of our line. OK, daydream is over we are here as we pull into the marina. Meeting Dom at the boat is like seeing a family member after a long time. His enthusiasm is contageous after a brief laugh and greet we motor off in our search, passing the break and lobster pots into the clear blue. Anthony starts his questions as usual and we all start laughing. We arrive, the morning fog has lifted, the seas are flat and the expectations are high. Within minutes the chum is set and flowing, our drift is on and gear is deployed to the deep blue in hopes of finding a taker right away Its the anticipation, the preparation, the expectation and then the wait, watching my son run around the deck cleaning, chunking and checking his harness every 5 minutes to make sure he is ready for battle makes me think of my young days. Listening to Dom's stories reliving last season and then it happens, a boil in the back of the slick, Dom screams everyone gets to their positions and 5 minutes later the long bait starts screaming Thats right my friends the time is here, in less than 90 days we will be out there chasing the bad boys, not those baby tunas I say but the big boys with teeth and Team Bite Me will be ready to do battle ... will you? The long ride home sure is better when the stories of massive sharks and long battles are told to anyone who will listen

Gman, every time I cross the G.W. I forget the first two hours of the drive. I just think of the fishing to come. When I get close enough I turn off the A/C, roll down the window, and breath in the salt. I could almost smell the air reading that post.

Its a very special moment for me, I know how that sounds but it really is. Each time I make that long trek with my son I wonder how many more I will get before the fishing stops and the girl infatuation begins ha ha I love that fresh salt air, as soon as I get over that bridge in Rhode Island I feel like Im home. Its peaceful and tranquil and gets me back to my roots Then its all carnage LOL
