| slack tide question Folks: Hypothetically speaking....if the tide is high at the Sandwich end of the canal at 12 noon, when would slack tide be at other points in CCB? I don't know if this is an ignorant question, but I would like to have a way to forecast slack times at other points in the Bay, such as Fishing Ledge. Tks in advance, JEMc |

| Eldridge Hi John, Pick up a copy of Eldridge tide book, indispensible for the serious fisherman and boater. Around 13 bucks most places, Defender I know for sure has it for $11.99, just got my 2008 last week! It will give you incredible tidal information, including direction and speed of current in many places.

| Oscar, Everybody uses the terms slack tide! What they really mean is slack current which usually happens close to the time of high or low tide. The tables will only give the time of high tide or low tide. The currents, as predicted for various key stations, in a graphical format can be had for free. Go to the following website: WXTide32 - Tides and Currents for Win9x/NT Download WXTIDE32! It is a free program that was originally put out by a major software house. It does make use of government data bases for its predictions. Since certain areas of the world charge for these data bases such as Scotland, England, Whales, etc. they have been omitted from the software. The US does not charge for current/tidal data basses, hence they have been included. The software will even allow you to place an offset into the graphs after you noted what the time difference is between the point you wish to predict (current or tide) and the nearest station listed. The only negative aspect of the software that I can see is the lack of a users manual. However, it should not take anyone long to figure out how to use it as it is very user friendly. I have found that its predictions for the Stonington area of Connecticut is dead on! |
