| 1st Tog for 2008 Went out with John from Madison, on his boat, today for a short visit to check on the local togs. We tried one day last week and got the big skunk. Hit a local reef but the current was roaring and 20 oz. didn't hold well. Then tried the wall and missed a couple hits. Today we went directly to the wall. Fished a dropping tide with asians and green crabs. Missed one and got one 4 1/2 lbs. ![]() Not a banner day but with this crazy short season(only two weeks till it closes), it beat just watching the water from shore. Bright sunny day with wind south under 5. Great to be out again. John's dog Jeter was happy to be able to lick another fish LOL. Unfortunately for him it was our only fish for the morning. Was going to smoke it on the grille tonight. Anyone got any recipes for that?

| those boats certainly have enough room to fish, even with Jeter the Golden Retriever chasing green crabs around the cockpit.

| Bob, Its been a long time since I fished for togs in the spring but I still remember using surf clams for bait this time of the year. I think this form covered this topic before, but I cannot remember why clams are suppose to work better in the springtime.

| Scup, We got out once last week, using clams, sandworms, shrimp, green and asian crabs. Nada. I thnk the water is still cold mid to high 40s and by the time it warms a bit the spring season will be done. Hope this warm sunny weather continues for a bit. May have a shot if the water temps come up.

| It probably did not matter in Bob's case; the amount bait he brought along cost more than my boat. The only thing missing was hermit crabs. I am going to see if I can get my boat launched soon and give it a try. I was not going to rush to get it in, but posts like this one and the one on winter flounder has me itching to go. Seventy degree temperatures predicted for today is only going to make me itch even more.

| Yeah they'll start hitting good when the season ends .... we did have a bit of bait, included with menu's and a pencil for the fish to select their choice LOL. Funny thing is we both said, "we should have some hermits" LOL. Hopefully will get a few more chances before it ends, then the wait for fluke season.
