Make lemonade! Today we were forced to make lemonade dispite working pretty hard to make stripers. The day was slated as another groundfish trip, but with a sketchy forcast and my love for groundfishing fading fast, we opted to chase schoolie bass. Mike C came down late last night with the tin boat and we headed out late morning after I got a cat nap after work.

We splashed the tin boat in Bourne and hit several usual early season holdover spots. NOTHING! We had the tide perfect in Bourne, but that didnt help. So we pulled the boat and dragged to a popular SCB location were Larry B was just finishing up. His report was grim. Never the less we splashed the boat and hit a dozen holes that always seem to hold fish......except today. After a few hours of trying we decided rather than wait out the tide here that we should go to plan C.

We pulled the boat, ran home and grabbed the canoe. A short drive to one of my favorite small kettle ponds would surely be the way to save the day.....and it was!

Mike and I carried the canoe a short distance to the water and slid off the bank into peacefull glassy water.

It took all of a few casts before we began to put a hurting on the local largemouth population. The fish here are not huge, but they are many. In abuot 3 hours of paddling we managed around two dozen fish each. Again, nothing huge but fat healthy bass in a calm peaceful environment.

Final tally around 50 largemouth bass from 8" to arond 2#. Lures of choice rubber and Rapala Perch. We used the normal offerings in the SW, Storm shad and sluggos. The water in both the FW and SW was right around 60 degrees. We had the bottom of the tide in the first spot. Top of the drop at the second spot and no tide atthe third spot.

Overall not quite what we had in mind, but Mike and I having' fished together in several months and any excuse to go out and wet a line is a good one. the tug on the line was as refreshing as a big glass of lemonade on a hot day!
