| Niantic river flounderin Fished off the dock in the Niantic river yesterday and had 2 flounder after the tide turned (outgoing).A fishin buddy invited me aboard his boat and headed a little upriver where they had 5 flounder earlier. The next 2 1/2 hours brought 15 more flounder with only one throwback for 3 anglers. Outgoing tide is the key right now with heavy chummin. Even a guy in a kayak had 6. I had not done serious flounder fishing in many (I will not elaborate here) years,so it was nice to see there is a fishery worth fishing again. the fish ranged from 12 -16 1/2 inches. just as I remembered the spring ones are not quite as chunky as the fall ones. It would be nice if the DEP could give us a November/December season for them as well. |

| This post did it! Today, it is supposed to get into the seventies. I have to get my ride launched this week and give it a try. My method is to go clamming and throw a line over the side baited with fresh clam (or even better, with any the various varieties of worms that my rake picks up.) The rake stirs up the bottom and acts as a natural chum. The last time I tried this, I think I attracted every spider crab in the area. I would love to catch a 16 winter flounder as they still remain my favorite eating fish. For some reason, people out of Niantic always seem do OK for springtime flats. I wonder why we have not heard anything from Flounderpounder?

| what the hell am i doing wrong. i've been out twice with only one hit and no flatties landed. i think its too many beers and not enough paying attention   |

| What am I doing wrong!! Try just the outgoing tide only,channel edges (we were where 5 ft. dropped to 10 and chum chum chum.We had corn and clam chum,corn appeared to be effective,there is also lots of mussels around the docks,free chum to crush and throw uptide to land under your boat.The fish were there as even a guy in a kayak had 6,which was amazing.We were fishing around buoy 16,but there were fish down in front of the marinas as well. |
