| and get some jigs tied up anyway in anticipation ![]() [/quote] Assuming you are talking about squidding jigs, could you describe or show a picture of what you tie up. The only squid jigs I know about are the ones shown in your flick (made in the Republic of China) and I sort of suspect they will work about as poorly as anything else we get from China, or some forty year old squid snagging jigs where one would tie bait just above it and hope that one or more of eight hooks protruding from the lead core will nail your quarry. I was planning on trying the Stonington Commercial Dock tonight but the weather might just be too crappy. I am not too crazy about going after squid in the first place as I usually buy them directly off the boats, but they do come in around this time of the year for a short period. At least I can post a report on NBS as to what the situation is over here so if some Stonington folks or youngsters are following this site they will know what is happening. Starting to think that with the cost of fuel, nailing a few squid off a town dock for a meal or two, just might end up being the most cost effective method of getting a decent seafood meal we will have the entire season.

The "Chinese" jigs work awesome, just take a ride down to the bridge sometime and you'll see ![]() I tie doubles and triples usually......some are weighted lightly, sometimes I have a very small sinker at the very bottom as well, depending on the current, etc. Depends how they're eating too.

| I must be in a time warp? Look at what I used in the sixties! I used to put bait just above it, however, it has been so long I cannot remember if it even worked well. I should of tried for squid tonight as the skies cleared up just as it got dark. I will pick up some of those pretty looking things tomorrow and give it a try after dark. Thanks for bringing me into the twenty first century. Still cannot believe it; something from China that works!

| Scup, I was going to try Stonington. We went up there on Sunday with intentions of squidding, but we were tired from the NPT trip the night before and couldn't manage to hang around till dark. I was in a parking log that led to a dock, on that dock there was a restaurant. Captain's Galley or something like that??? There was also a big blue boat, maybe some type of ferry docked there. Where is the commercial pier? I want to head up to it one night with my submersible light and a car battery and try for some squid. Thanks. |

| I use a rig similar to Eric. The yozuri squid jigs in pink, glow and green seem to work best. Like anything else, on some nights one color will out fish the other. I've had good luck mixing the colors and using a weighted jig on the bottom. Depending on where you are, you tend to snag bottom more often this way, but then again you have more jigs in the water to increase your hook-up.
