I fished with Dave B on Sunday and when we left the dock at 6:30 there was a stiff S.W. breeze and when we got on the Bank it was hard to hold bottom using 50# P.P. and 9-12 oz. jigs. We put out a drift sock tied to the mid cleat which made our drift beam to the wind and we could work our jigs without a problem. A lesson learned. With so much bait on the Bank, clams no, jigs yes. At times there were so many sand eels around us that it sounded and looked like a heavy rain and the whales were on them. It always surprises me when a codfish will take a jig when it has a fist sized ball of sand eels in it's mouth. Another great day on the Bank and some good eating ahead. |
