We've done some swaps on another board - it requires a level of comfort with the participants intergrity, which isn't a difficult feat either....

There are a couple of ways to do this -

One was:
"X" number of participants want to participate in a swap, for the discusion we'll say 10 people. - One person is noted as the starter. A list of the addresses and contact phone numbers wold be generated, phone numbers are verified. No P.O. Boxes allowed without the concensus of the group. The starter person's name is last on the list. That starter person would take 10 plugs and ship it to the first person on the list. The recipient then takes out one or two plugs and replaces it/them with his own (best) work. He sends it to the next person on the list and he folows suit. At the end, the last guy to swap returns the box to the starter.

No P.O. Boxes are typically allowed as I have been informed of other swaps (actually, a cigar swap) , someone made off with about $1000 worth of stogies - If a person with a P.O. Box is know to be reputable it can be allowed.

Another way to do this is each participant cuts one or two plugs at first. They send them all to the starter person. He starts by swapping one or two other plugs. It goes through the list of names, each swapping out one or two plugs until it is returned to the starter again. He then removes the original amount that he put in (one or two plugs) and sends it along the list until it reaches the end of the list.

During each stop, the participant is required to state what he took and what he put in. Photos are best.

All shipments go USPS priority or better, but however it goes it must have a tracking number for delivery confirmation.

A 10 person list takes about 60 days to complete - In my opinion. lists much over 10 are too large and it becomes better to split up into two swaps if 15 or more....

- I may have missed a few small points - but this is the 'jist' of things....

Kev, that sounds a little more complicated than what I was thinking of. I thought each person sends 1 lure into the starter and the starter puts all names into a hat and sends one plug to each person who sent one in. Seems much easier to me.

I haven't considered down sides to this though? I guess I'm just a trusting person

Simple is cool - I'm up fer it

THe other method get antsy like a true yankee swap...(#3 guy on list cringing at each pick after seeing the most beautiful plug in the pile....)

There is a down side - I got into one once that I actually started. A few high-end builders jumped up and shortly after that so did a few fledgling builders - Most of the new guys put their best stuff (some very rudimentary but very respectable plugs) although the work wasn't refined the plugs were the pride of some really great guys - but some guys who I thought knew better threw in some pretty crappy efforts - I have one that I keep on my wall of shame - made by one of the most respected builders today - I even asked him what he was thinking and he continued to otry to pass it off as top stuff -

In short, I ended up with 15 plugs, mostly conversation pieces or boofinch fodder....

I never worry about that as all my plugs are for bluefish.

Yer loose in the melon, ya know that Lu?

Just as a clarifying note - The plugs from the newbie guys were some of the best work I'd seen in a long time - Some are on my fished once and retired wall - Didn't want to risk losing them - BTW - there's two Lu plugs in that group...

Someday when we meet I'd love to see some of them your talking about ;) ;)

It really wouldn'
t matter to me which one I get. I have a hard time throwing plugs too much now adays. I typically throw my old regulars anyway. Usually anything given to me hangs infront of my computer along with a lot of experimental stuff I make.

Kevin;
You have described a "pass" Just like the plug opass you started. I think we are talking about a Yankee swap here.
Ten guys send in plugs, the starter mixes them up and sends different plugs back out to those 10 guys!
Done!
