| Hoop and I did our 3rd shark trip of the season Sunday after a day on Vinyard Sound Saturday with friend Mark N. chasing bones with nothing to show for it but blues. It was a nice day on the sound and FAC all day so running around in a 21 CC was no problems and Aside from a little rain was dry and comfortable. The plan was to go funny fishing Sat with mark and then in return Hoop and I Would show Mark what sharking was all about. Mark had never been sharking before and had no idea what ot expect Yup you guessed it Sat while funny fishing all we could do is catch bluefish, Sunday when we wanted them we could only get 1. We did keep 6 from Sat so we at least had fresh bluefish filets for sharkin..We still SUCK at catching bluefish when we go sharking. ![]() So lines off at 7am and after a few hours of blue wishing we deside we are burning daylight and head for the blue water.. It was a little bumpy getting out to the Claw but we were able ot do 25 kts most of the way. Pulled up to an area were a few dragger weare working and desided to set up shop. Hoop and Edge's Magic Chum goes In, and hoop and i show Mark how to rig and set our typical 3 rod spread. Water temp is about 66 degres, water is pretty clean and grey blue and we have a nice Drift. We get everything set and then the wait.OK Hoop I am getting to the Funny part. Hoop tells me he was laughing with me and not at me, but i know he was laughing at me.. I purchased a Kite this season and had my mind set on hanging a live bluefish under a kite for sharks. Well easier said then done. Why is it a 5 year old can fly kites but a grown man ends up looking like a monkey F^%$ing a football with boxing gloves on. Anyway it only took 10 mins of ablolute failer to get me to put it back in the tube, sit down, chain smoke a few butts and sulk like a 5 year old . All the while Hoop and Mark are just grinding Salt into the open wound of my misery.. Thanks guys Well after the Kite thing was played out and all the "laughing with me" was over, we get our first real runnoff of the day. We told mark he was up first so we get him belted in and Game on.. 20 min later a slim 72" mako comes to boat side. This little guy did give us a bit of a tussel and it took a few mins to get him secured and tailroped. (Note to self when harvesting a Mako of any size use a flyer or a poon) Just a straight gaff is not a good idea.. Any way we get the mako bled and tailropped after a bit of twisting and splashing. No danger but not an easy task compared to using the flyer. We set the spread and get another runnoff almost right away. This time hoop in on the rod and he has a nice tug o war with a really thick 10' blue. Now I have watched hoop lean on a 210 lb BET and when i say this was a nice fish i have some idea that this big blue girl had some sholders and was giving up a good fight.. Hoop gets the big girl boat side in about 20 mins and we cut her loose and away she goes tired but happy to be free.. Spread back in and a few half hearted runoffs over the next few hours and then another good run. This time it is my turn and i get on the rod and after hooking this fish it desided it was not worth a fight and slowly swam right at me right up untill it got near the boat and then it desided maybe a good up and down fight would be fun. 20 min up and down and 3 times she comes to leader before another big 10' blue girl is brought boatside and released. Spread back out and an hour later another quick run. Mark is in the rod again and in short order brings another mako to the boat. This one was a little guy a bit over 4; and was dehooked and released. We deside we had enough for one day and pulled the spread and stowed everything for the ride home.. All in all a good day sharking, it was a nice day on the water, we had a good drift and good action all afternoon with only 2 draggers in sight all day. We got 2 nice big blue sharks of approx 10' and 2 makos. I think Mark liked Sharking and i know he like eating mako cuz we grilled up a few steaks that night after steaking it.. Next time i am bring a 5 year old to show a grown man how to fly a kite !!! Sorry guys no pics left the camera on the boat.

| I guess your right - we were laughing at you. Great day on the water and I'll say this - Mark is a fishaholic. After 2 straight days of fishing he was heading back out Monday for a little surfcasting from the ditch. We've converted another one to the dark side. And I am looking forward to trying to fly the kite again.

A buddy of mine bought a kite and I was real skeptical. Not to mention when he broke it out it was a pretty rainbow kite. He set it up like a professional and had a livey on the end. The kite was keeping it right on the surface and looked tasty, no sharks around anyway but I still had to bust on him. The set-up was promising however and I am sure once you get some wind in it you will think it worth while!!!
