609lb mako..17ft boat

"I think we're gonna need a bigger boat"

December 17, 2007- Captain Wade and his team hooked a 609 pound Mako Shark at about 3:00 this afternoon near the Perdido Pass. They were fishing from a 17' Cape Horn. The shark was caught on an open-face spinning reel spooled with 40 lb. test line.

What a horrible way to go for a big warrior Mako like that...on a spinning reel and a trebel hook. They followed it around until they had to jump on another vessel. That fish needed to be pushed to the edge so they felt what is like to be challanged

I heard about that fish. I heard they called another captain to shoot it. He stuck the gun barrel under the water blew the barrel up. LOL What would you do to catch a fish of a life time. Great post.

I'd like to see them put 35-40lbs of drag on that fish and see how it reacts. Following around a fish until it surfaces to stick a meat hook in it isnt my idea of fishing. But Im just being outspoken, stil a great fish just not the way I woulod want to catch it.

A wise man once told me when i got a HUGE thresher to the boat within 30 minutes with 25lbs of drag, "G ...it doesnt even know its hooked yet", and then all hell broke loose and that was that

No way it figured it out
