Happy 4th of July fellow Fishing Nuts ….I finally got a free second to type up a report from yeterday but its gonna be a brief one as the wife is dragging me in a million different directions on this Independence day…. We Left the dock at 0300 from Falmouth Harbor yesterday morning with Capt. Scott Clay, Capt. Jim O’Brien from the JSeas, Dr. David Sloan from On the Hook TV, Tim Wood, Tim Jutras and myself. Conditions were disgusting all day with visibility at some points down to 10 feet. After talking with a few of the pros on the way out, we got in an area and just started pounding it out….There were some birds and a few random whales here and there, but for the most part it was a crap shoot out there with no visibility. ![]() After 3 hours of tweaking and adjusting the spread with only a couple sizable bass to show, I decided to let the left long black bar back a little from where it was…..just as I set the drag back up with the bar in its new location, I see a big silver flash and it popped the clip and ran off for a second….At first I thought it was another bass because of how it just rolled on the bar, but then it started running off with some force, and it became clear that this was no line-sider ……It was a very odd BlueFin hit the way it rolled on the bar, but at that point none of us were complaining….I looked over with the rod in my hand at Jutras and said…"get yourself harnessed in"….then I glanced out towards the right long rigger to see a MONSTER of a fish leave what looked like a bomb hole around the pink bar….unfortunately he missed the hook and it just wasn’t meant to be with that brute…. ![]() So I made a clean handoff to Timmy J, and he got settled in for his 2nd ever BlueFin which was now down to the backing of an 80….He did a nice job with the fish and had it in Jimmy’s hands in about 20 minutes or so…We decided to take this fish, so Jim locked it up and Dr. Sloan nailed it with an impressive head gaff shot! Fish measured out at 60" and was sporting a hefty waste line! After that we pounded the area for 3 more hours with visibility never really breaking more than 50 yards or so….We did have one other swing and miss from a fish that crashed the left short rigger but didn’t connect…. Water temp was 59 degrees for those that are interested…. Big thanks to Scotty for taking me out there and also to Capt Jim for driving us back in! Great day spent with a great crew despite the $hitty weather…. On a side note - These fish are gonna be pigs this fall. Every fish that we have caught so far has been fat with good tasting meat already! Ok - so I guess that wasn’t that short of a report….Lol…..have a Safe and Happy 4th everyone!!!
