This is a continuation from my first thread….(Sorry for the long read) So Friday night Chef Steve did us up some unbelievable sushi and some pan seared fish as we discussed our plan for the rest of the weekend over a few cocktails. We really wanted to get to the canyons for an overnighter, but with the forecast still calling for T-Storms well into Sat. evening we decided to check things on Sat morning but most likely just do some inshore fishing on Sat and then another trip out East for Sunday. I had the “Miami Sword King” drive up from Staten Island on Friday night just in case we did decide to make the run down south though. Worst case, I told him he would just come BlueFin fishing with us on Sunday if the canyon trip fell through and that the bite out east was hot. He was game, and made the 6 hour drive up. Nice work GregO! So Sat 8/16 we analyzed the weather and the temp charts down South. The Capt. just didn’t like what he was seeing so he pulled the plug on the canyon trip and we enjoyed a nice day of inshore fishing for Bass and Blues around the Vineyard instead. Saturday Evening we found out that we took 4th place in the tournament and also received 2 trophies. 1 for Largest Tuna, and 1 for Top Male Angler of the tourney. A nice showing for us considering we only fished the first day of the event. OK, on to Sunday and the good stuff….. The Crew – Capt. Scott Clay, Tommy Tuna, Chef Steve-O, The Rastafarian Hoo Patty Salvato, The “Miami Sword King” Greg Haronits, “The Daffer” Mike Duffley and you know I was there….We had a bigger crew for Sunday’s trip but it was a crew of All-Star Anglers and basically all of my best friends so I was pumped. ![]() So we left Falmouth again at 0DarkThirty and blasted out under the full moon towards the area we fished on Friday. We went lines in this time at 0500 and began working the area. We had a few tricks up our sleeve for this trip and were pretty confident we would do well again. It took us a while to find the life but when we did, it was much bigger than Fridays showing. Hundreds of whales, porpoises, birds everywhere….Things looked promising to say the least! After about 2 hours of trolling our spread through this carnage we finally get a nice runoff on the left long. Chef Steve-O was the first one up for this trip and he was looking to redeem himself from Friday’s mishap. He did an awesome job with this fish and had the leader in my hand within 20 minutes. The “Sword King” smacked the torpedo looking thing in the head with a precision gaff shot and we were on the board! Another nice and round 55” fish…. ![]() After a few high fives, we got the spread back out quickly and I went up to the tower to see what I could do. I really wanted to put Greg on a fish since he made the haul all the way up here from New York City. It wasn’t long before we got attacked again……This time, a big fish comes up and hammers the right short for a big swing and a miss, ten seconds later the right long has a massive boil and another big whiff job…..just as I got the 5th “You Mother F**ker” out , the right long gets crashed again and this time we were tight – Thank God! The “Sword King” got belted in and began doing battle with this fish. 15 minutes later we dragged the 63” fish through the door, placed a tag in him and sent him on his way. When we got the deck cleared I noticed that we now had about 50 boats around us so I motored us out of that mess and gave us some breathing room before we put the spread back out. I got on the binoculars and saw some life way up to the North of us without any boats so we inconspicuously made our way up towards it. Upon arrival in this new area the spread went out and we had whales galore again. This time Capt. Clay was at the wheel and it was the “Daffers” turn to do battle with a big Tuna Fish. We trolled right through the middle of a massive whale feeding frenzy and sure enough the rigger popped again……zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz………………..zzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz We quickly cleared the spread for this fish as it was no doubt a big boy. The Daffer got harnessed in and did a great job fighting this corker. Greg and I carefully leadered the 66” fish tagged him and gently placed him back in. Needless to say we were pretty fired up after that!!! We decided to end on a high note as the weather was starting to really come on out of the SW. Final Tally was 3 for 6 on BFT. Just an all around great day of offshore tuna fishing…..Amazing amounts of life out there on Sunday. The water Temp was 67 degrees if anyone was wondering. Sure is shaping up to be a great fall with all of this bait out there. Special Thanks to Capt Scott Clay for taking me and all my friends out all weekend. I also want to thank Mags for her hospitality in letting us all crash at your house all weekend too. ![]() Good Luck Everyone and be Safe Pics will be posted soon…. | Nice report Brian!! Congrats to RipDog for taking 4th (although I thought you guys were a shoe-in for the title). But is sounds as if the real fun was on Sunday. Glad to hear about all the life out there again - and I imagine the water is looking a lot better too. Looking forward to the pics! ![]() | ||

| Nice pics Brian. Always a full report from you.....you should consider giving up your day job and becoming a writer..... But I guess that would take away from the fishing - and we can't have that!!!! | ||
