AlloyToy NWC Late Report

Kind of a late report, but was away with no internet access last week.

Friday 8/15
Fished North of the NWC. Left Ramp at 3:30 AM and slowly made our way out. Arrived on our spot and set up or spread. Trolled for two hours with nothing not even a sight of a fish. Had marks on the finder so decided to drop some jigs to find large haddock, cod & cusk. shortly after off in the distance we could see spray which looked like roosters from a water skiier.......TUNA!!! Reeled in and tried to intercept them. Took my spinning outfit with a large olive Salty Bugger and made a cast Wham!! I'm tight Fish ran like a freight train. After 51 min I got a look at the fish and it is BIG!!!. In the mean time 3 other pods of fish surrounded our boat, and were crashing half beaks everywhere sending them 2 feet into the air. The fish made three hard runs, and we were chasing him down. At the 1 hr mark we had him 30 feet below the boat and what was big now was huge (est 150 lbs)!!!! The fish began to circle as I slowly gained on him then POP!! The hook popped from the jaw $hit!!!! Ever seen a grown man cry!!! I was however impressed that the knots I tied held out and how well the Shimano Spheros held up throughout the fight.

Monday 8/18
Trolled the Mud Hole, Gully, Fairway.........only to find big blues that wanted to break the bank by tearing up our gear Did see some huge marks on the finder, but no knockers

Tuesday 8/19
Left Marina Bay in the early am and headed to the North again. Arrived on the bank with only one or two boats that appeared to have spent the night there. We marked bait everywhere, with large marks mixed in. Dropped jigs down until we could see enough to set our spread. Weeds were everywhere as were boats at sunrise. Fish came up a couple hours later and it was pure ciaos. After having words with a six packer that decided to try and cut our spread off, we decided to move North to deeper water, and away from the fleet. Well it paid off A half hour later we had a big fish on the single speed lever drag and it was dumping us. We cleared the other rods, and I strapped on my Reel Draggin fighting belt (which worked out nice) and had the fish boat side & gaffed in 10 min.
He took the black foil bar & glow stinger which seems to now be a standard on the bank.

Shortly after the CG announced that a severe front would be moving through the area with high winds, rain etc........so we decided not to be greedy and head for the barn.

Great day, and my biggest fish to date. 64" CFL I'd have to say about 150#'s or so..........but just my estimate

Fish was packed with sand eels.........back at em Friday weather permitting

Great report, Congtrats. The tuna grounds have been a madhouse on weekends. Out East it's a war zone. I'm fishing weekdays amd working weekends for now.
