We headed out just 3 of us, myself, my father, and Tommy O at 0415 and steamed out the bay to go get fresh bait. By 0700 we were baited, cleaned up and heading to our destination while getting the sharking gear ready. Lines in by ~0800, with a non-existant drift, the first hour drifting 0.04 NM LOL. Good thing was that the wind against tide was actually carrying our chum slick out in a nice line regardless, and all baits were in a perfect line in the slick. But we looked at the same piece of gear for a LOOOOONG time LOL! We SLOWLY picked up a better drift, but I was just happy that the tide was at least carrying the slick. It was akin to being anchored for giants back in the day LOL. First vistor was a Mako at our far bait, which worked up our floats slowly but then disappeared. Next 2 vistors were Blue Dogs, both about 6', but very scrappy, and "twisty" LOL. Both were tagged and released. Mid-afternoon I saw another Mako fin surface at the far bait. I watched as it circled the float, then came to the next closest, etc. I had pitch bait rod in hand, and when he showed at the boat, was already twitching the bait. He was getting excited, quickly circling and eyeing the bait, and finally lunged at it. I had the bait only 5' below the boat LOL. I love getting these on the pitch baits ![]() When I saw the bait "disappear" and he started screaming away, I set the hook and started the fun. He came by the baot a couple times, and I got a good look at the hookset, and it was as perfect as you can get, so I wasn't worried about him "spitting the hook" and gave him a little leeway. This guy was pissed off bad and was getting wild LOL so I lightened up and let him run a bit and worked him a lil tired. I got him boatside and realized how fat he was, although not big. When he rolled and we also realized he was male, we started second-guessing tagging/releasing him, as we had planned. It was getting late, so we decided to take him. We estimated him about 5-1/2 feet as we discussed it. Next time around, I handed the rod to Tommy O and sunk the flyer in his gills and we tail-roped him. I sliced his gills to bleed him and we kept our other baits in and kept fishing an hour or more to finish out the nice afternoon. Someone in a small CC in eyesight got both a Thresher and a Mako (kept the Thresher, tagged the Mako). The lack of being covered in Blue Dogs was a good sign early on, as was the first Mako fin. Beautiful afternoon! Lines in at 1630 and started our nice ride back in the now 10 kt SW breeze and following sea. Some real nice rollers out there up to 6-7' ![]() What an awesome day offshore is all I can say. Not a cloud in the sky, calm, "rolly", and some meat for the freezer ![]() The steaks filled my 38 Qt Wheelie Cooler and the lid wouldn't even close LOL.

| Awesome job Eric and Crew!!..... So glad I opted not to go on that trip with you guys for 6 keeper fluke and a few sea bass that we caught yesterday on my boat... ![]() The highlight of my day was watching my good friend Bob land a 32" 12.8lb doormat right next to us yesterday just north of Austin Hollow | ||

| Alloytoy, Yes it was Sat. No BFT around us.....they were over ~1 mile SE of the Fairway Buoy. Several guys were nailing a bunch of them from 25#-30#. I wasn't going to run around for those rats, only being able to keep 1. But if they showed up near us, maybe LOL. ![]() Once you set up a slick and put your effort into it, you don't want to leave without a good reason For me, with fuel prices the way they are, the days of spending all day dragging around plastic for a couple rats in these areas are over. Just not worth it.Brian, that's a sweet doormat! How was the bite overall? Lots of throwbacks or no? Our experience has been lots of keepers there compared to the throwbacks, as you know.

| Sat was the first I had heard of a decent SBFT troll out there. I was surprised, due to the almost 73 degree water in that area.
