Back from Tri state canyon shoot out

Back from Tri state canyon shoot out

fished the tri state last week aboard the Mountaineer we fished Tuesday left the harbor out of block island in pea soup fog we couldn't see the bow of the boat on the way out. one boat got hit very hard by another on the port side from another boat and was damaged very badly but no body was hurt and the other boat that hit him was perfectly fine. we headed for the tails because of the weather that was supposed to be coming that night. we arrived at the tails at about 9:30 because of the thick fog but the seas were very calm. WE started trolling in the the flats of the tails and right off the bat we had 2 yellow fin crash the spread and only managed to hook up to one of the fish one hit a rainbow spreader bar and the other on a purple jet. Landed the 1 yellow estimated at around 60 pounds. Put the spread back out and trolled very hard all up and down the flats and the canyon with nothing else to show for besides small mahi wich were even hard to get to hit we had no life what so ever in the tails. So we headed east down the edge and trolled through a decent temp break with nothing no life what so ever.Got a call from a friend out there saying that most of the fleet from the tournament was leaving back to the docks because the weather was suppose to kick up very badly with 20-30knt winds and very violent lighting and rain storms moving very fast up west around midnight so we decided to troll another 2 hours and then we were out of there along with the rest of the fleet. ended up getting nothing else for the trip until we went back to the flats of the tails and found some life didn't get a touch. So we headed back to the barn and with in 40 miles of block the fog rolled back in and was just as thick as before but during pitch darkness. took it slow in and ended up getting back to the harbor at 12 with the fog not clearing up at all it was very difficult and a B@!&$$ navigating through the harbor with all the morning fields and a very narrow channel but every body that night made it back to the docks safe. Only a hand full of the boats stayed out for the night and said that it was very nice out there the storm ended up coming later that morning and was very nasty for the ride back in for those that stayed out they did very well with very nice fish.

Winner of the tournament was the boat Infinity the owners of LL electronics with a very nice eyeball weighing 267.5 pounds and took the win congadulations to LL, and second place was a 257 pound bigeye, and third place was Castafari with a nice size eyeball. There was also a 118 pound wahoo that was caught wich might be a RI state record congrats to that crew. didnt fish the rest of the tournament we ended up partying very hard and had Block islands finest officers make a visit to the docks three times until 5am when the dock party ended. wow what a party..

saw a 23 foot Boston whaler at the tails that was from the 80'S he had no radar or any updated electronics he was fishing with his wife, and kid i hope they made it inn safe and before that storm hit not smart at all
i have pics of the whaler that was out there will post them later.

(DRANK ENOUGH TO LAST A LIFETIME!) I AM STILL RECOVERING WHICH BOAT DID YOU FISH ON???

THAT 118 POUND WAHOO THAT WAS CAUGHT WAS CAUGHT BY THE GUY THAT HIT THE BOAT RISING SUN LEAVING BLOCK HARBOR IN THE FOG TUESDAY MORNING.

DID YOU SEE THAT LITTLE WHALER AT THE TAILS TUESDAY MORNING HE WAS SITTING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLEET HERES SOME PICS OF THE BOSTON WHALER "DOUBLE CLICK ON THE IMAGE"

I FISHED ON THE ISLANDER.

I'VE SEEN BOATS A LOT SMALLER THAN THAT OUT THERE BEFORE. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE ONE OF THEM GETS CAUGHT IN A GOOD BLOW - GAME OVER.

HE SURE WOULD'NT OF LIKED IT OUT THERE MONDAY!
