The morning NW slowed our pace to the SW corner but all in all it was a decent ride. We missed the early AM slack tide which in retrospect was probably an error on my part. Lines in at the corner and we looked unsuccessfully for the same signs of life I had last weekend. Some bait, a very occasional bluefish but not the density I expected. We end up further to the north at the mid-day slack after fighting through a significant weed line and our starbord rigger bar goes off just as I'm dropping it back. Fish takes a solid 200+ yds as we are clearing and I'm getting harnessed. Still tight and I'm kicking butt as much as I dare. After the second trip to the boat we finally get a full look and realize this is a darn nice fish so we decide to take it. Josko leaders, I get one gaff in the head and he sinks a second, tail rope on and she's being bled off the port corner. First fish tapes out to a full 72" once we have it on board. Largest tuna for D-H ( and I've broken Chet's rule for not catching fish larger than myself )
Fishing again while we are dealing with #1. More weed to clear when the Offshore Innov. GM Chain gets bit, plenty of drag pressure and this fish still pulls a ton of string. Josko whips it and we are taping and releasing a nice 58" fish.
Even though the signs of life, (birds, bait and whales) pick up as the afternoon begins, we don't get another sniff. No complaints, a great trip.

Bob,
Nice to see you here on this site. Are you not chasing bass anymore??? Hopelessly bitten by the offshore bug it sounds like to me... Not a bad disease but definitely an expensive one. Congrats on a couple of nice toona's. Man I hope the schoolie toona show inshore again this season we had a ball with them 2 years ago on the fly.

I'm still a bass guy at heart, in fact I bought a 12 skiff this spring to poke around in the skinny water that the Formula can't reach. I've just learned more about the diversity of opportunities we have here. Variety is the spice of life, right?

You are so right Bob about the variety, I sure wish we had the same variety dwon this way. I need to get up there and join you some time for a tuna adventure. Would love to land a big one like the one you guy's got. Man I love that boat of yours, a zillion times better than your old boat and a beautiful one to boot.
