Canyon Report

With the crazy blow on Saturday we were forced to cancel our overnighter to Hydro and just do a day trip to a closer canyon. We left at midnight and headed for a break in the Atlantis area. We arrived at 4:30am and began trolling in the dark. We had some decent life with many porpoises and whales and the water looked really good ranging from 73-75 but we did not get a hit for 2 hours!

We decided to pick up and move to another break that looked interesting in between East Atlantis and Veach. We went lines in at this spot in 73 degree water and the first hour there produced nothing....

Just as we started to get a little worried about the trip the Center Rigger with the WWB bait gets nailed. We boated the 60lb yellow and finally got the skunk off the boat! Then a few minutes later both short riggers got crushed and we had a double of nice size Yellows.....

After that we had pretty consistent action with 50-75lb Yellows with the biggest pushing around 100lbs. During one of the Yellowfin fights we had a Marlin come up right behind the boat and slash at one of the suspended Marlin lures that was just sitting in the water under the rigger because the lines were cleared. We tried pitching him a bait but were not able to hook up. Very cool site though. Right after that we had two other Marlin in the spread when we got back on the troll but missed both of them as well .

The highlight of the trip came around 1:30 PM when I hear the Captain yell down from the Tower...."What the F*#K was that"....It looked like a bomb hit the short rigger daisey chain with a Marlin lure at the end of it but missed....I ran over and took two cranks and then set the chain back to where it was....then one second later....Whabaaam!.....A Giant Wahoo inhales the Black Bart Lure and I was on. A few minutes later after a surprisingly short fight we gaffed the 6 foot Hoo and the the whole cockpit began going crazy with high fives and hugs! It was my first Wahoo and it was a big one!

We decided to end on a high note and head for the barn around 2:00ish. We had a gorgeous flat calm ride back to Falmouth over many cocktails. Final talley was 10 YellowFin to 100lbs (most of them were in the 60lb range) 4 small Mahi and a big Wahoo that we estimated at 75lbs but did not weigh. Pics to follow.....

Tight Lines & Good Luck Everyone

It tasted like candy last night. Had it raw with the Tuna and had some of the Hoo on the grill. I had never tasted it before. Unreal how good it is....

Nice work

good job of capitalizing on a short weather window

We laid over Friday nite and bagged the trip mid day Sat as it was simply too rough to head south

Awesome report

Nice work on the tiny weather window, glad to hear someone cashed in. I babysat tourists all weekend Sounds like you had a blast, especially on the ride in

What was the hot lure for the fins?

Wahoo Pics

The hot lure for the hard tails was the spreader bars on both short riggers. Here are a few shots of the big Hooo.....
