Crimson Tide Charters first trip of 2010

Well, Akula is in the water and was off to Stellwagen Bank this morning for a exploritory trip/ shake down cruise. After a few stops we found the motherload of health market Cod in the 6-12 lb range, fortnately for the Cod they were all released after a quick photo. Surely a good sign for when the season opens in 5 weeks. Doubles and triples were the norm before our jigs even hit bottom. We left the Cod still biting in search for Haddock, but they proved to be difficult to find. It almost seems that the better they taste, the better they hide. Akula will be back out in a few days to do some more scouting out in the deep water, Untill next time....

good outing

Even if nothing went into the box. It was a beautiful day for a shakedown cruise with lite winds, bluebird skies, and relitively calm seas. The dance floor on the duffy is a big change from the 25' or 22' walk that i am used to and at times i almost felt all alone. It left more then enough room for 6 guys to spread out. And the down east platform was stable, dry, and more then comfortable. Sweet sled for sure. Chasing tuna on that bad boy is going to be a blast.

She ran very nicely at 21 knots for a cruise. Fred and I had her topped out at 26-27. This heated cabin stuff is for the birds though.

On a side note we poked our noses out Friday in 3-5 foot head sea and she plowed thru with ease.
